Spring 2009 Computer Course Curriculum
Registration for Spring 2009 Computer Classes will be held starting at 9:00 am on Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Calendar House Perry Room. Early arrival is suggested. Applications will be handed out on a first-come, first served basis beginning at about 8:30 am when the doors open. There will be no advance registration. For Late enrollment, while space is open, see Peter Freeman most mornings in the lobby. Spring 2009 Classes begin on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 and end on Thursday, April 2nd.

Computer Course Descriptions
BASIC COURSE FOR COMPUTER BEGINNERS.
This FREE 4-week orientation course is for seniors who have little or no computer experience. The student will become acquainted with the main components of the computer, mouse, keyboard and basic computer fundamentals. This course, or equivalent computer experience, is prerequisite to all other course offerings. Classes are on Wednesdays, 9:00 to 11:00 am. First 4-week session runs from Feb. 4th to Feb. 25th. Second session starts Mar. 4th and ends Mar. 25th.
INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS.
An 8-week course offered on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 11:00 am for beginner students with limited computer experience who have completed "Basic Course for Computer Beginners" and are comfortable with the mouse and keyboard and have a preliminary acquaintance with computers. The course introduces: (1) word processing, how to create, edit, copy, cut, paste, enhance and save documents, (2) create and manage files and folders, and (3) the basics of Internet and e-mail. Classes are from Feb. 3rd to Mar. 24th.
EXPLORING THE INTERNET.
A 6-week course offered on Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. starting Feb. 5th and ending on Mar. 19th. Learn and develop the skills to join the millions of senior adults who are already on-line; become adept in using the Internet as you bring the world to your finger-tips, do research and download files. Intro to Computers is an important pre-requisite.
HOW TO SET UP AND USE A PRINTER .
A new two-week workshop offered Thursdays, Mar. 26 and April 2nd. We will offer information and guidance on setting up and using your printer.
LEARN TO USE E-MAIL .
This four-week class is conducted Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 pm from Feb. 3rd to 24th. Learn to set up and use the free and versatile Google G-mail system. Compose, send, reply, forward emails and add attachments. File your Gmail in labels (folders) and save it all in Google's cyberspace so that you can access it all from any Internet-connected computer, anywhere. Learn to set up and manage your Gmail Contacts (address book). Though the primary goal is to teach G-mail, we will briefly discuss Cox & ATT Yahoo e-mail systems.
GOOGLE DOCS.
This four-week course is conducted on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 pm from Mar. 3rd to 24th. Discover this exciting Google system that enables you to upload and create your own documents, spreadsheets and presentations in your Google Docs account and file them in cyberspace so you can access them anywhere in the world. Share your work on line and in privacy with selected groups and individual collaborators. Edit, format, spell check and invite others to view or edit your documents on line through Google Docs without having to send attachments. The Google service is FREE and everything you upload is available to you away from home from any connected computer anywhere.
SENIORNET MEMBERSHIP DUES AND FEES.
SeniorNet Membership Dues are $40.00 per year. Fees for courses and workshops are $15.00 each. Exception: The 4-week "Basic Course for Computer Beginners" is FREE and SeniorNet membership is not required.
